Getting Started at StoneAgeFuel Barbell Club
At StoneAgeFuel Barbell Club we have Olympic Weightlifting programs for adults and youth and remote athletes! Getting started is easy and depends on what pathway is best for you.
We start our adults and youth with a free 1-on-1 introductory consultation.
For adults this gives us the opportunity to see what their movement patterns look like, how well their mobility and flexibility looks and if there is any previous experience with the lifts what technical errors we can spot. This allows us to create a personalized training protocol based on the specific strength and weaknesses of the athlete and gives the coaches an idea of what to look for when barbell club training begins. Upon conclusion of the training session we generally move people into our fundamentals of weightlifting program to get an opportunity to work 1-on-1 for 5-7 sessions before club training actually begins. This sets the new lifter up for success in the program and is a great way to develop some level of technical consistently before club training begins.
We have the capabilities to train adults all the way from the local to the international level and have trained adults in the following events: USAW American Open, USAW Nationals, IWF Masters World Cup along with countless local competitions. We have also worked with many different CrossFit athletes to bring their lifts to be more competitive and consistent for CrossFit.
Our adults train MW @6pm, TTH @11am and Sat at 11am
For our Youth Weightlifting and Sports Performance program during the 1-on-1 introductory training session we look for the ability of the child to jump, sprint and perform various athletic tasks in order to gauge the current athletic level of the child and we test the level of mobility and flexibility of the child. From there we gauge the child’s current level of coordination with some basic drills with a PVC pipe and finally discuss our methods and philosophies with the parents. We also answer any questions or concerns that the parents may have.
Our recommendation for the program that best suits the child is given at the conclusion of the session. This may be our prep, training or elite program. Prep training begins with the child working 1-on-1 with a coach for 5-7 sessions to teach the child what the movements look like, how to perform them, the importance of recovery with mobility and flexibility and etiquette in the club.
We train kids to excell at and dominate the sports they wish to participate in including: Basketball, Football, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Swimming, Volleball and Track and Field. We also have the abilities to take our youth who wish to pursue Olympic Weightlifting as a sport from the local all the way to the international level and maybe even one day the Olympics! Kids can start as young as 6 years old and our ages range from 6-17. We are the current USA Weightlifting National Youth Chanpionship team for the 13 and under girls category! In fact girls make up over 50% of the kids who lift with us.
Our youth train MW @4:30pm, TTH @4pm and Sat @11am
For remote athletes choosing the specific programming option (both adults and youth) we begin with a questionnaire asking some basic questions about where the athlete is at in their training, current strengths and weaknesses, maxes on several different lifts, how much time and how many days a week are available to train, both short term and long term goals and dates of competitions that are coming up. Once the questionnaire has been completed we have the athlete send us videos of the classic lifts in the 75-85% range as well as heavy lifts in the 90%+ range. From there we develop a plan of action and create a training regime based on these goals. We also have a general programming option that is an excellent tool for building up the potential to succeed in weightlifting. You can subscribe by clicking the subscribe button below!
