How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first workout… what was it, and how did it feel?
I wandered into a local CrossFit affiliate in Reno when I was considering joining the Navy and was given a 1-on-1 assessment that ended with Fran, a workout that includes a variation of squatting, pressing overhead and pull-ups! 15 minutes later I was pretty smoked, but felt great as I’d never experienced a workout like this before!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting at StoneAgeFuel? (before/after)
I went from being fast and athletic but lacking in the strength department to being strong like bull and generally prepared for whatever life threw at me! CrossFit also sparked an intense desire to learn about the human body, the way it regulates it’s metabolism and utilizes food and put me on a path to studying Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno.
What changes in your life have you experienced from StoneAgeFuel that were totally unexpected?
Making lifelong friends and joining an amazing community that continues to give back and support everyone involved. You really can’t understand the community value in CrossFit until you experience it firsthand and you definitely don’t expect a gym to become a second home!
Please share with us any favorite StoneAgeFuel moments.
All of them! Our holiday party, the Reno open, coaching and working with so many people everyday. There is nothing better than to watch someone attain their goals and become a stronger, more confident version of themselves.
I take pride in watching our youth start on their journey to a love of health and fitness, watching our adult athletes attain weight loss goals they never thought possible and then become super excited to show me their results.
Any advice for people just getting started?
Find a good program and visit the gym, see if you fit in with their culture and base your decision on that. Never base a decision solely on price! You do not need to be fit to join a CrossFit gym. You will gain fitness at any level when you start as most gyms including ours have programs that will start you at the beginner level and advance you as you get better.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit at StoneAgeFuel?
I enjoy and have developed a passion for Olympic Weightlifting and have been to the national championships, I also enjoy cold brewing many different types of coffee!
