Hang Clean | Youth Weightlifting and Sports Performance | Olympic Weightlifting

 In General, Olympic Weightlifting

The hang clean is an excellent tool to use when initially teaching new lifters and it is also an excellent tool to use for developing good positions and building strength in these positions for more advanced lifters.

To perform the hang clean do the following:

  • Begin with the bar just above your knee, Shins straight up and down, shoulders over the bar, chest up and knuckles facing the floor
  • As you begin the lift start by pulling the bar back using your lats. Stay in your whole foot the entire lift
  • When the bar reaches your upper thigh begin jumping from the whole foot and pulling the bar up thereby pulling yourself under the bar
  • Catch in a front rack position with your elbows up and stand up
